BULL SALE REPORT

    Greg and Lori Shearer, Wall, SD and Todd and Samra Trask, Wasta, SD, along with their families, were hosts to a excellent crowd of customers and friends April 13th, during their 21st annual sale of ranch-raised Angus
cattle in Western South Dakota.
    A complete information package was given in the sale catalog and the cattlemen studied their notes sale day.
    Topping this year¹s sale was lot 1, selling to long-time repeat customer Don Fish, Buffalo Gap, SD, with his final bid of $6,750. This 2-22 yearling son of Spear U Ranch Hand 8303 out of a Larks Canyon daughter carried a birth wt. of 84 lbs., 205 day wt. of 698 lbs. (ratio 107), yearling wt. of 1,375 lbs. (ratio 112), ADG 4.64, scrotal cm. of 34.20, IMF 7.48, REA 13.3, Beef Value 41.6, and EPDs of BW 2.4, WW 44, Milk 18, YW 96.
    Clint Johnson, Canyon, TX, topped the sale with his final bid of $6,750 for lot 49, a son of GAR Expectation 6901. This 2-18 yearling posted a birth

This sale was held on the eve of one of the best, wet springs we have seen in years. This calving ease, high maternal based program had a very nice sale. There were more decisions made to keep replacement heifers three weeks after this sale than in the preceding four years. The cattle were in great sale shape, and, with a good turn-out of repeat customers, this outstanding offering drew quite a few new buyers sale day. The carcass data on the offering was great and many cattlemen strongly used this information to make their purchases. Although calving ease is still a large part of the program, there were some performance bulls that made the top selling list. Bidding
was set at a very fast pace by the cattlemen demanding ownership of these bulls. There were no huge tops, but the sale was very steady throughout the day.
